William Golding was affected by being a part of D-day because  of the trauma he experienced. Golding was lucky enough to survive even though most of his friends were killed. I think Golding questioned the goodness of mankind because they were at war. If mankind were all good there would have been no need for war. He wouldn't have been fighting for the Jews to be freed if mankind were good because they would have never been captured to begin with.

I think mankind is born with goodness  but their environment is was makes them develop barbaric behavior. I think this because I believe it is impossible for a new born baby is born with selfishness and the ability to be evil because children are born with innocence they don't know any better than what they are taught.
